In our family, we’ve always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. In fact, if a family legend were to be believed, my great grandmother was reputed to be one of the finest coffee makers this side of the great lakes. People who had ever taster a cup of her freshly brewed coffee would often relate the tale of taste to their family, till the tales were carried down across the generations. So when great grand mother passed away at the ripe old age of ninety two, all of us were understandably unhappy.

Well, such things are bound to happen and while life had to go on, a couple of us started packing up her worldly belongings. It was then that we first found the antique coffee grinder. As far as antique coffee grinders go, it was a pretty nondescript one. Now I have no real idea what an actual antique coffee grinder is supposed to look like, but there it was! A genuine antique coffee grinder that sat staring at me right in the face.

So this was the secret of great grand mother’s great tasting coffee! My cousins and I gathered around to stare at the antique coffee grinder. There was more to it than the fact that it was old. Or that it was a coffee grinder, the likes of which could scarcely been seen nowadays. There was even more to it than the fact that it was a piece of history. It was a piece of our history. It was the one thing that made my great grand mother a legend.

We were holding in our hands the one piece of family history – in the form of that antique coffee grinder – that had given her a semblance of pride and a great deal of honor. And considering the fact that she came to this country as little more than a poor immigrant, with little more than the clothes on her back and the dreams in her eyes, it was a defining thing.

Who knows? She might just have brought that antique coffee grinder with her on her voyage to this country. Of course it would not have been an antique coffee grinder then. But over the years, through the skillful use of her nimble fingers and sharp mind, she made it more than a mere antique coffee grinder. She made it a defining part of her life by breathing life into it with her passion for the good things in life. And that passion found its way into every cup of coffee that that antique coffee grinder ever produced.

Valuing an antique bracelet can be difficult. There are many factors that help determine the value of an antique bracelet, but some are more difficult than others to decipher.

One part of valuing an antique bracelet is the age. For the most part, the definition of an antique is something that is fifty or more years old. Not all things “antique” are valuable. With antique bracelets, value is sometimes added if it is from a later decade as long as it is by a certain maker. Many current fashions use antique-looking jewelry. For an antique bracelet to be valuable it needs to have been manufactured decades ago.

The company or individual that made the antique bracelet is also important in assigning a value to it. There are major accessory companies that started out making only jewelry many years ago. An antique bracelet from the original line of a company like this can be highly valuable to collectors.

One way to figure out the maker is to look for a maker’s mark somewhere on the antique bracelet, once the age of the bracelet has been determined. Individual jewelry designers are also highly sought after. Many designers also stamped or engraved their work in some way.

Sometimes a bracelet that is not valuable for these two reasons can be valuable for another reason. That reason is, drum roll please, the material it is made of! Of course you may know that gold and silver are precious metals. An antique bracelet made out of one of these metals is somewhat valuable, even if it has none of the qualities above.

Even a new bracelet is valuable if it is made of gold or silver, although that value is lower than what it is bought for. Gold and silver are not the only materials that can make an antique bracelet valuable, though. Something called “Lucite” was invited sometime in the twentieth century. Lucite feels like a mix between plastic and a harder material.

Some things that help determine the value of a Lucite bracelet are the age, color, and size. Another thing that highly improves the value of a Lucite antique bracelet is whether or not there are any carvings on the bracelet. If the Lucite bracelet is somehow very intricate, it is worth even more than other bracelets.

One more thing that plays a major part in valuing an antique bracelet is the reason the bracelet was originally made. A bracelet that was made to be a gift for royalty, even though it may not be made of a very valuable material, is potentially more valuable than one made for a close friend of no national importance. Basically, if there is some sort of documentation that the bracelet was originally made for someone of great importance the bracelet is even more valuable.

Looking at my Ansel Adams poster, I am reminded of my last trip to the mountains. I’m not a mountain climber – I have a serious muscular illness which prevents me from being able to properly exert my upper body strength. But still, I have always looked to the mountains with a kind of love and longing. I’ve been blown away by their magnificence since I was 13 years old. I was raised in the Midwest, hundreds of miles from the nearest mountain range, and never saw them until my parents bought an Ansel Adams poster and put it up in the living room.

I was just completely overawed by the spectacular detail of the rocky crags in the Ansel Adams poster. It was as if he didn’t just capture the image of the mountain, but somehow brought back its soul as well. In that Ansel Adams poster was the image of a kinship with nature, the like of which I had never seen before. It was as if the photographer knew the mountain personally, and had it pose in its most splendid pose just for him.

It is that same Ansel Adams poster which I now look at, as I remember my trip to the rockies. Usually you say that a picture doesn’t do it justice. I don’t think that in this case, that sentiment is exactly true. The Ansel Adams poster is completely just with its subject matter. It is more that it doesn’t give it completeness. It isn’t just the epic scale or fantastic beauty of the mountains, which can be captured by the Ansel Adams poster. It is what they do to you as an observer. They surround you, they tower over you, they overwhelm you in their multitudes and dizzy you with their scale. You can feel the icy air which has been propelled in frozen currents down their sides cut into your face. You feel giddy in the thin air. Although the Ansel Adams poster captures the beauty of mountains, it never can capture their power over you.

But maybe Ansel Adams himself could feel this power, could give himself to it and be awed by the mountain. Maybe that is where Ansel Adams posters get their impressive power, not from the familiarity which the photographer had with his subject matter, but rather his awe and humility before it. Perhaps what makes Ansel Adams posters so great is that he never attempts to capture the experience of mountains in their entirety, knowing that that would be beyond anyone.

It makes sense to shave even seconds off our busy days, eliminating unnecessary steps wherever possible. The time we waste is not only money lost, it is exhaustion added to our already weary working souls. In the waitperson’s world, for instance, the head waiter or waitress will teach them to “save their steps” by always having something in hand when returning to the kitchen or re-entering the dining area, always picking up a breadbasket or plates on the way to the kitchen or bringing the coffeepot along when returning to the tables. Otherwise, waiters and waitresses would have doubly sore feet and muscles at the end of a shift.

The same goes, of course, for our detail work at home or in the office. That’s why here we will honor the address stamp. Sure, decades ago, the personalized return address might have been endearing. Today, the address stamp—either in sticker form or made by a rubber address stamp contraption—gives packages, missives, and any other correspondence a neater and/or more professional appearance.

The rubber address stamp machine, if you will, is a godsend. For under twenty bucks, you can access an online provider, go to a postal annex, or visit any facility that will custom-make an address stamp for you. With three lines of text, a built-in ink pad, and a spring action that is kinda fun, really, the rubber address stamp is ideal (especially if you don’t want to drag out the address labels, boot up the computer, and print a whole batch of addresses.

And what I found especially convenient was the fact that the raised rubber information can be, to a degree, modified: when your return address once read Susie Q and Joe Blow in the first line, after the divorce you can take razor blade in hand, shave off the divorced person’s name, and still use the stamp for your own personal and/or business correspondence!

Now that’s shaving more than time away, isn’t it?

There is no need to get 4 season tents for gentle summer camping. Even if there is a heavy downpour, the use of sleeping pads combined with adequate planning should keep everything fairly dry. The important thing is to not camp at the bottom of a hill, to make sure the rain fly is secure, and to take advantage of natural cover. But, a four season tent can be a nice thing to have for extreme conditions, and if you have the money to spend on one, it is a luxury that can really improve your camping experience.

Basically, the difference between 4 season tents and regular tents is that a 4 season tent is tighter, with heavier outer walls. When it is all zipped up, there is no space anywhere for the elements to get in. In addition, 4 season tents are often stabler so that they can resist extremely heavy storms if need be. This does not mean, however, that you cannot use 4 season tents in nicer weather. Many styles of 4 season tents come with the ability to unzip the outer fly so that you can keep cool on summer days, while still braving near-arctic temperatures in the winter.

You will find, however, that the more extreme the conditions for which it was designed, the more specialized a 4 season tent will be. For example, some true mountaineering 4 season tents are not things that you would like to take camping on a warm summer night. The ventilation panels are small, with the result that it will be stuffy and hot at night if you are camping during the summer with them. Additionally, they are made of heavier, stronger material, and as a result are an added burden for your normal camping trip.

And of course, good 4 season tents can be prohibitively expensive, running upwards of $500 dollars sometimes. Compare this to a 1-2 person summer tent that you might buy at your camping store. I got mine for $30 dollars and, although it provides little warmth, it works alright during the summer when combined with a decent sleeping bag. The truth of the matter is, it is important to think about what you will be doing before you go out and buy expensive mountaineering equipment and 4 season tents that you will not need. You must make sure that your equipment fits its purpose.

When you go out to buy a new camera, you always have the option of buying many accessories to go with it. Though most of the people that buy these are those that use their cameras for business related reasons, those who simply want to take good pictures should think about having some of them. Not all are useful to everyone, but there is one thing that most find a need for now and then, and will use quite often if they have it. The camera tripod is always a great idea for something to go along with your new camera.

Some cameras come with a component that helps the shooter steady a picture even when they may be a bit shaky. However, not all have this, and they are certainly not perfect. They are more common in video cameras as apposed to still shot cameras anyway. The camera tripod can be used when you feel shaky, or when you absolutely have to be sure you have a steady shot. When using lower speed shutter function, it is nearly impossible to get a steady shot without the camera tripod anyway.

The camera tripod works well when you have to take a lot of pictures in the same spot. If you are shooting some candid’s for a wedding, for example, you may want to have guests come to have their photo taken to give to the bride and groom. You can simply set up your camera tripod somewhere safe so that you can just grab people when they walk by. When you do this, you are sure that all of your shots are not shaky, though you do have to know how to make sure they are focused correctly and framed evenly. With today’s cameras, that is simple for most people.

If you didn’t buy the camera tripod when you got your camera, don’t worry, you can still find something that will work. Though there are tripods made just for specific cameras, you can find some that work with most. If you are stuck, go back to where you bought your camera and ask them to help you choose among the camera tripods that they have for something that goes with or works well with your particular camera. Don’t buy without being sure it works and fits. Don’t forget to think about a monopod as well. They aren’t quite as steady as the tripod, but they can help in tight situations where a tripod is not possible.

American Girl dolls are growing in popularity and many young girls are delighted to adopt one of these toys into their collections. The dolls are designed for young ladies around the age of eight to twelve but I know some grown up girls that would find these items to be true treasures as well.

There is good reason for the popularity of these brilliant toys. Not only does the child (or collector) receive a beautiful and well crafted doll, she also receives a story as well. Following are examples of American Girl dolls that are on the market today. You are sure to find at least one that stands out as the perfect choice for your child.

The best approach to finding the right American Girl doll for sale on eBay is for for your child is to browse through the selection and have her tell you which ones are outstanding to her. There are so many to choose from that the process of picking just one is a little difficult. It is important that this one American Girl doll is just right for your young lady.

There are basically two fundamental choices to make. Do you want to choose an American Girl doll that is accompanied with a historical story or do you want one that allows your child to make a story of her own. Either way, you are assured to receive a magnificent present that your child will never forget.

The dolls that are accompanied by a historical story come in many different forms. You can choose a Native American Girl doll or a Victorian doll, or even one that represents life on the range. The choice depends on your child’s interests and tastes and I’m sure that any little girl will communicate what she really likes.

Not only do the American Girl dolls teach children about history, people and events; they also teach children about values, behavior and aspirations. These teaching vehicles are wonderful and motivating resources for learning about making priorities and working towards doing the right thing. The dolls and their stories serve as examples.

Creative young ladies may want to choose from the modern American Girl dolls that are designed around their own features. You can choose a doll that has the same features, skin color, hair color and eye color as your own child. This will help her really relate to the doll. In addition, your child can share stories with her new friend.

Sooner or later, office lighting is always an issue in a workspace. From the floor lamp at your home office to the fluorescent lighting in your place of work, having the right light fixtures can make a huge difference in your productivity and comfort. For my part, I have spent a lot of time looking for the perfect desk lamp in the past. I used to have a simple executive desk lamp, and I liked the light that provided, but it was a little bit old and battered. When I decided to replace it, I wanted to make a change. I figure that it was an excellent time to redecorate my home office, so I bought a new desktop toy and a desk lamp that was different from the one I had always used. The desk toy was pretty straightforward –One of those doodads with the clanking balls. The desk light was also somewhat classic. After thinking about it carefully, I opted for a Tiffany desk lamp.

In my home workspace, things are easy. Because I only have to light one room, I don’t have to worry too much about lighting costs. I don’t have to buy high-efficiency halogen light bulbs. I can use standard incandescent ones which, although they use a lot more energy, also provide a warmer light source.

At the office, however, it is a different story. Every one of the desk lamps has to be fitted with a high-efficiency fluorescent light bulb. They instituted this as a part of cost-cutting policy. I have to admit that it works. We saved 50% on our electric bill since we started using high-efficiency lighting. There are drawbacks to it, however. Your typical fluorescent light gives everything a dead look. Fluorescent lighting is fine in the bathroom, But if the space where you work every day is lit like that, it can get kind of depressing.

Fortunately, there is a solution. Whether you are using a desk lamp or an overhead light, you can get broad spectrum lighting halogen bulbs nowadays. This is a great improvement over the way traditional fluorescent lights work. Broad-spectrum light bulbs, as the name implies, produce much of the full spectrum of visible light. To the human eye, this makes things look brighter, warmer, and more cheerful, as well as increasing visibility. This might not seem like a big difference, but if you spend hour after hour under the same lamps, you will notice the change.

Though its true that Avon products have traditionally been marketed to primarily women, the company is expanding its line of men’s and children’s products, to include shampoos, conditioners, aftershave, bubble bath, skin care, travel accessories, and other unique items designed to keep the children entertained.

In addition to corporate pursuits, Avon is also dedicated to women’s health and empowerment, and to date has risen over $450 million for breast cancer research and domestic violence issues. Avon continues to donate resources to important women’s issues, and encourages women to empower themselves in their personal and professional lives. Throughout the years, Avon has given women an outlet that may have not been available to them otherwise. Selling Avon doesn’t have to be door-to-door, but it is a great way for sales representatives to meet potential clients, and distribute Avon Products catalogues personally. Networking with friends and family is also a great way to make new acquaintances and future business associates.

New parents sometimes feel like there is nothing they can do to get close enough to their new baby. Babies must be close to caregivers at all times, but most trudge around with various types of car seats and other carriers that limit what they can do, and limit how much they can hold their child while they are out. Even the smallest babies can get heavy when carried in the arms for a long time. This is why so many love to get baby slings when they have a baby. Not only can they be close, they can have their hands free as well.

Baby slings are designed to keep baby close to the body of mom or dad without having to hold them with the arms. You can always wrap your arms around them while they are in the baby slings, but you can also use your hands to do whatever you need. If you are going grocery shopping, or you have more than one child, this can make things easier. You can also keep a colicky baby near you if that is the one thing that keeps them calm, but you can also get about doing the things you need to do.

The most important features of baby slings are going to be comfort for the baby, and the strength and durability of the material from which it is made. The last thing you want is something that is going to chaff the skin of you or the baby, and you definitely don’t want something made out of a material that you can’t trust. It must be secure, and you must be certain that the baby slings you have are not going to bust when holding the weight of your baby. Most are made well for those very reasons, but be sure to check them over when you buy them.

Baby slings can make great gifts for new parents when you aren’t sure what else to buy. Though they may already have one, you can still be sure they are going to use the one you give them. This is one baby item that is very useful, and having more than one can actually be a blessing. That is because they can keep one in the car, one at home, and even one at grandma’s house. They will always have one where they need one. New parents forgetting things is common, so having more than one is practical.
