One of the biggest headaches I have when I read at night is disturbing my wife with the light. I have a small lamp beside my bed, but that doesn’t really help much. The light still bothers hier, and perhaps that was because it is just too bright no matter what I did to try to dim the light. The overhead light makes it a little easier for him to sleep because it only has one bulb. However, this is still something that bothers him, so I may have to go out and get a book light.

A book light is something that I have seen on television, but I haven’t seen them for sale in stores just yet. I probably haven’t looked in the right places, or I may have to go online to a site like eBay or Amazon to find one. The book light I have in mind clips over the book so that the page is illuminated just enough to comfortably read the page without bothering my wife or having a light that glares in my eyes, which may cause a headache.

For the most part, any book light you will find will run on a battery, and they can easy clip onto your book so you don’t have to worry about holding it. The problem might be turning the pages however, as the clip might have to be removed and put back on each time you turn the page. If you read fast, this type of book light might be a problem. For me, this might indeed be something that will drive me crazy after just a few pages. The latest book light innovations are headsets that hook over your ear like a cell phone accessory. This is the type I want.

You can also find a book light that clips onto your headboard. This light should be a tiny pencil sized light that is very focused so it hits your book, but diffused enough so that it does not cause a glare that can hurt your eyes. You can find a lot of little lights like that, and they can double as a book light if you want them to. Just make sure you can try the light out, and perhaps ask if you can return it if it turns out to be too bright. I would suggest standing in a darkened room with one before you buy it, but that is probably something you can’t do in the store.
